| | Judith Parrish, Risk Manager Of Workers’ Compensation Program At UCLA, And Once The Right Hand Woman To Zenith Executive Bill Saake, To Be Memorialized Tomorrow, June 6th 2014, At Forest Lawn In Glendale, California By Lonce LaMon - June 5, 2014
Judith Parrish, the risk manager for workers’ compensation at UCLA, passed away on Thursday, May 22nd 2014. According to her daughter, Amanda Parrish, Judy went into the hospital for a blood transfusion on that day and during the procedure she lost consciousness and then could not be revived. Thus, her death was unexpected.
Judy was born on December 17th 1946; so, she was 67 years old when she died. She was born in San Jose, California and grew up in San Bernardino, California.
Judy Parrish was educated at Long Beach State University and during college she was a buyer for the Broadway. After that she got into insurance: auto insurance and liability claims. She started at The Zenith in workers’ compensation claims in Los Angeles in the mid-1970s and made her way to Assistant Vice President of Claims. By around 1992 she left Zenith and worked as a real estate appraiser in business with her husband, James Parrish, who predeceased Judy in March of 2002. Judy had a real estate license.
She worked for Bill Saake for over 15 years. Bill retired from The Zenith in 2006 while in the position of Senior Vice President over all of claims.
Saake told this writer by phone today that he started out with The Zenith in 1969 as the claims manager in San Francisco. Zenith tried to talk him into coming to Los Angeles for a few years and he finally did move to L.A. in 1974. The Zenith office was not in the San Fernando Valley in those days, it was on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. So, it was there in the Los Angeles Zenith claims office that he met Judy Parrish.
Judy Parrish "could do anything" according to former Zenith Senior Vice President, Bill Saake.
Bill needed a right-hand colleague. "Judy looked to me as the best choice. She was very good: well grounded in workers' compensation."
Judy Parrish then in the 1970s was a claims supervisor and claim analyst. Bill Saake said, "She was an all-around employee. She could do anything. She even worked with me in reinsurance. She was very good."
So, Judy did much more than what was defined within the role of a claim analyst and supervisor, according to Saake. "She visited all the branch offices. She did claim file reviews, reserve analysis, servicing of the customers and claimants. She was just terrific. I could always count on her."
Judy Parrish was the right hand to Senior Vice President of Claims, Bill Saake, at The Zenith throughout the late 1970s and entire 1980s.
She began the UCLA phase of her career in 1995. She worked there in the workers’ compensation program as the risk manager until the day of her passing.
She is survived by her daughter Amanda Parrish who was born in 1972, now age 42. Condolences may be sent to Judy’s address of: 6316 Trancas Canyon Road, Malibu, California 90265.
Thus, Judith Parrish’s Memorial is set for tomorrow, Friday, June 6th, at 12:30 pm at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, 1712 S. Glendale Avenue in the “Wee Kirk O’ The Heather” Sanctuary. http://forestlawn.com/glendale.
