Hector Porrata, former workers’ compensation claims manager, dies at age 59. He went to New York to attend to his father's death, and then died there himself.
By Lonce Lamonte - August 16, 2023

Hector Porrata was a workers’ compensation claims manager during the first decade of the twenty-first century.  He was claims manager of Matrix Absence Management in their San Gabriel Valley office, which they had in those days.  Today Matrix is in San Jose and Roseville within California.

Hector died on July 22, 2023 in New York.  He was 59 years old.

He regularly lived in Moreno Valley, California, but had traveled to New York to attend to the death of his father. While there in New York, he didn’t wake up one morning. It was understood he had a heart attack.

Hector had been in the Marines during the early time of his career.  At the time of his death he was working in sales. With his personality, he was definitely suited for sales.

In workers’ compensation claims, he worked at CDS of California starting in the 1980s.  Then he worked at Home Insurance, Continental, Sedgwick, Matrix and AIG.

He was well liked by his collegues.  "Hector made claims adjusting look like a prestigious occupation," said Laura Powell, who worked with Hector at Home Insurance Company in their early careers.  "We were like family."

Hector was known to be an excellent dresser.  He was a bit of a dandy and was charming. Very charismatic. He was well dressed every day always choosing to wear suits to the office even if it was hot outside. He originally was from New York and a Puerto Rican.  So, he was a New York Puerto Rican.  His father remained in New York as Hector moved west.

In 2008, Hector was charged by the Orange County District Attorney for insurance claims fraud. He served about two to three years at Wasco state prison and had his sentence cut down because of good time/work time.  Hector made a mistake and paid the price.  He repented and turned his life around.  He expressed his gratitude.  He said this on his Facebook account.

Hector is survived by his five offspring and his girlfriend, Yolanda Espino, who had been with Hector since 2022.

May Hector rest in peace and be remembered for the good in him and his talent as a professional by those who loved him.
