She wasn’t looking. But through serendipity, Crystal Johnson has wound up a senior associate attorney at Pearlman, Brown & Wax. By Lonce Lamonte - March 21, 2023
It wasn’t in her plan. So, this recent move just happened by surprise and destiny. Somebody recommended Crystal Johnson to the senior partner of Pearlman, Brown and Wax. Thus, they talked on the phone.
And one thing led to another. Now Crystal is a senior associate attorney with Pearlman, Brown & Wax, a workers’ compensation defense firm in California.
She is working out of their Orange office and lives in Diamond Bar.
Pearlman Brown & Wax used to be called Pearlman Borska and Wax until recently. Elliot Borska became a WCAB judge and is now at the Marina del Rey board. That’s how he stepped away from the firm.
Now Pearlman Brown and Wax have six offices in California: Encino, Orange, San Diego, Oxnard, Concord and Sacramento.
According to Crystal, Pearlman Brown & Wax is well organized. They handle defense for teams of the NFL (National Football League) and Major League Baseball (MLB). And Crystal has much experience handling claims for sports teams.
She worked at AIG in Santa Ana for nine and a half years pretty recently just before going to the Law Offices of Stacey Tokunaga, also known as SLT Law, in Orange for nine months in 2022. She had worked for SLT Law back in 2010 as a hearing rep and a marketing manager before passing the state bar examination.
It was at AIG that she got the experience handling claims for athletes and other employees of professional sports teams. It was that experience that made her an attractive prospect for Pearlman, Brown and Wax.
Crystal was born and raised in Los Angeles. She started in claims at Allstate in the late 1980s and then went to Industrial Indemnity where she handled workers’ compensation claims.
She’s a well experienced workers’ compensation claims adjuster. She also worked at Pacific States Casualty, Specialty Risk Services, Gallagher Bassett, and Berkshire Hathaway. She also worked as a temporary adjuster at Tristar Risk Management in both Santa Ana and Alhambra.
As well, she has her real estate license, which she obtained in 2019. She’s affiliated with the Berkshire Hathaway real estate brokerage.
She was educated at UCLA and Cal State Fullerton. She went to law school at Western States University College of Law. She obtained her California state bar card in the year 2021.
Crystal enjoys working a lot, “I have no life” she quips. But, when she can squeeze it in she likes dining with friends. She also enjoys comedy shows and concerts, when she likes the artist. Her taste is for smooth jazz and R&B.
